About Art Ventures
Bethel Horizons Art Ventures is part of the larger entity of Bethel Horizons, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We offer classes and workshops in clay in two studio buildings. Scotty's Studio (named after our friend Scott Dickenson, who passed away in 2003) is our summer facility, and Adamah is our large all-season studio completed in 2009. We also have a beautiful anagama/noborigama wood kiln built by Edgewood College Ceramics Instructor, David Smith. Participants are lodged on our main Bethel Horizons campus, but we are currently fundraising for a new retreat center that will be built on the Art Ventures campus.
Bethel Horizons Art Ventures is not new! Our history is intertwined inextricably with the life story of our teacher, friend, artist, Don Hunt (1946 - 2008). Don began the ceramics program around 40 years ago, when his dream of a Midwest clay school began. For more about Don, please scroll down for a biographical essay written by his wife Kathy.
We currently have one part-time staff member, a part-time consultant, and two artists-in-residence. We rely on a lot of volunteers (who are very gracious with their time and energy) for annual maintenance and larger projects. Many of those volunteers come from Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, Wisconsin. Many are our instructors who have a long history with Bethel Horizons, and are generous with their time and energy as well. We are very grateful for the generous group of people who are so dedicated to continuing to build this dream that was Don Hunt's.
